Brazil's Supreme Court expanded to more than 11 seats by the end of 2026?
Market Rules
The Constitutional Amendment Proposition #275 (PEC 275) was introduced to the Brazilian National Congress in 2013 and started to be discussed in September 2021, proposing changes in some of Brazil's top courts. For the Supreme Court (Supremo Tribunal Federal), for example, it proposes to expand its composition to 15 justices, 4 of which could be appointed by Congress itself.
In the 2022 elections, the subject was raised again in the context of the dispute between Lula and Jair Bolsonaro, with rumors that similar proposals could be voted on by the new Congress.
If by the end of 2026 the number of seats in Brazil's Supreme Court (Supremo Tribunal Federal) is expanded beyond 11 by an act of Congress, this market will resolve to “Yes”. The expansion does not need to come as a result of PEC 275 specifically to fulfill this condition.
