Will OpenAI be acquired in 2026?

Market Rules

This event predicts whether OpenAI (including OpenAI, Inc. or its controlling entity) will be acquired at any time between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026 (inclusive). For this market, an “acquisition” means a merger, takeover, or transaction that results in OpenAI losing operational independence to another entity. The Primary Designated Source (PDS) will be an official announcement by OpenAI or the acquiring entity confirming such a transaction.

If an official announcement confirms that OpenAI has been acquired within this period, this market will resolve to "Yes". Otherwise, it will resolve to "No". Internal reorganizations, leadership changes, spin-offs, or rebranding efforts that do not involve loss of operational independence will not count. If official announcements are unavailable or ambiguous, the Secondary Confirmation Mechanism (SCM) will rely on consistent reporting from major, reputable news organizations. Resolution will reflect the substantive loss of independence due to acquisition, not corporate restructuring technicalities. If a definitive determination cannot be made, Futuur may cancel this market with a public explanation.
